Festival is a display typeface inspired by the vibrant Masked Bull Festival from São Caetano de Odivelas, Pará – a small town in the Brazilian Amazon. This celebration, held every February and June since the 1930s, is a living expression of cultural resilience and community spirit. Artisans come together each year to remake the festival’s iconic masks and costumes, giving life to characters like the cabeçudos, pierrots, and the bull.
This typeface captures the playful energy of the celebration and the handmade essence of the crafts that shape it. Designed to support extended Latin characters for both Spanish and Portuguese, Festival is suitable for both print and digital use. It brings a joyful, human touch to any visual identity, echoing the rhythms, colors, and movement of one of the Amazon’s most unique traditions.

The project also includes a printed booklet to give the typeface a physical space beyond the digital world. The booklet features handmade illustrations using gouache on paper, keeping the artisanal feel of the festival alive. This approach reflects the work of the local artisans who, every year, create the masks and costumes by hand. It helps connect the typeface to the tradition and creativity at the heart of the celebration.
